Constructive Uses of Humor

The Communication Studies Department is excited to announce we are offering the very popular course, COM 337: Constructive Uses of Humor this fall. The course will be taught by Melissa Wanzer, Ph.D.

This class will survey classic and contemporary humor theories, concepts and research. There will be a special emphasis on research that highlights the benefits of humor in education, medicine, business and relational contexts.

“In COM 337 I hope that students learn to use humor competently in their social interactions. Also, I encourage them to take humor risks and the first step is doing a 5-7 minute standup routine instead of a traditional final exam. Most students will do the standup and succeed,” said Dr. Wanzer.
